How much does dog training cost in Fresno?

4 minute readUpdated 19 October 2026

The short answer

Group obedience is $950 for the full twelve-week course, private training is $120 an hour, and a puppy session is $100 for two hours. Prices are per dog. The group course is the cheapest way to get a trained dog because you are sharing the trainer's time with 7 other families; private training costs more per hour because the trainer is only working with you.

Almost every training site in Fresno makes you call for a price. This page does not, because the price is not actually a secret and hiding it wastes your time and the trainer's.

What each program costs

  • Group Obedience: $950 per dog for twelve weeks. That is about $79 per class at twelve classes, plus the pre-course walking session and the owner-only lecture, so closer to $68 a meeting in practice.
  • Private Training: $120 per hour, at your home. No package required.
  • Puppy Help: $100 for a single two-hour session.

Per dog, not per household. If you have two dogs that both need the course, that is two places, because a class has a hard cap on how many dogs can be in the room and two dogs are two dogs.

Why the group course is the better value

Twelve weeks of group classes costs less than ten hours of private training, and it buys more hours of actual instruction. The trade is attention: in a group you get the trainer's eye for part of each class rather than all of it, and your dog has to work around seven other dogs, which is harder and more useful.

Most dogs that pull on the leash, jump on visitors or ignore you in the yard do not need private work. They need repetition around distractions, and a group class is the cheapest way to buy that.

What is not included

Your own time. The course asks for roughly twenty to thirty minutes of practice a day. That is the part people underestimate, and it is the part that decides whether the money was worth spending.

No equipment purchase is required. No board-and-train, no e-collar package, no supplement.

Compared with the other trainers in Fresno

These are prices the trainers themselves publish, checked in October 2026. Six-week group courses around Fresno run from $149 to $200: PetSmart on West Shaw lists $149, Petco lists $149, Savoir Faire lists $200, and Be In Control in Selma lists $170. Rooby-Doo lists $320 for eight weeks. Peacemaker's twelve-week course is $950, which is the highest published group price in the area and also the longest course, by four to six weeks.

Private lessons go the other way. Peacemaker is $120 an hour. Rooby-Doo is $150 an hour at its facility and $200 in your home, DR K9 is $150, and Happy Dog is $100. The two chains are cheaper again: PetSmart lists $89 for an hour in the store, and Petco's package works out near $83 an hour at its Visalia location.

Board-and-train is a different service, and this business does not sell it. Where it is sold locally it runs from $1,400 for one week to $6,700 for eight.

The honest way to compare is not the headline number. It is the number divided by the hours you spend with a trainer, and what you get for the money at the end.
